Composition: -Â Â Â Tablets: Each enteric coated tablet contains 200mg Sodium Valproate. -Â Â Â Syrup: Each 5ml contains 288mg Sodium Valproate, the equivalent to 250mg Valproic Acid. -Â Â Â Each 100ml contains: 5.764gram Sodium Valproate. -Â Â Â Solution: Each 1ml contains 200mg Sodium Valproate

Properties: -Â Â Â Sodium Valproate is rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. -Â Â Â Sodium Valproate is extensively bound to plasma protein about 90 to 95%. Half-life for Valproic Acid ranges from about 5 to 20 hours. Valproic Acid crosses the placental barrier and small amounts are distributed into breast milk. -Â Â Â Sodium Valproate is extensively metabolized in the liver. It is excreted in the urine almost entirely in the form of its metabolites with small amounts excreted in faeces and expired air.

Indications: -   Daviken® is an anti-epileptic drug recommended for the treatment of various types of epilepsy: -   Primary generalized seizures, absence, myoclonic seizures and partial seizures. -   The acute manic phase of bipolar disorder. -   Prophylaxis of migraine.

Contra-Indictions: Patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug and with hepatic dysfunction.

Adverse Effects:Daviken® may cause some undesirable effects such as: nausea, gastric pain (at the beginning of treatment), increased appetite, liver or pancreatic disease, transient hair loss, or slight tremor of the hands. These symptoms must be reported to the physician.

Dosage & Administration: -  In epilepsy the dose should be adjusted to the needs of the individual patient to achieve adequate control of seizures. •   The average daily dose is 20-30mg/Kg body weight divided into 2 or 3 doses preferably taken with meals. •   Tablets should be swallowed with water, not be chewed or broken. •   If desired, syrup may be diluted with a little of drinking water. •   The dosage should be strictly followed as prescribed. -   In acute manic episodes of bipolar disorder: Initial dose 750mg daily in divided doses. Thereafter the dose is increased as rapidly as possible to achieve the optimal response up to a maximum of 60mg / kg daily. -   In the prophylaxis of migraine: Sodium Valproate 250mg twice daily up to 1g daily may be necessary in some patients.
